Dont look nowand#44; but this is the biggest bargain in the showroom today. 70s F-Bodies are red hotand#44; and this 1979 Pontiac Trans Am packs its numbers-matching engineand#44; a freshened interiorand#44; and great-looking Atlantis Blue paint. You wanted one when you were a kidand#44; and at this price theres no excuse not to own it today. Is this car perfect? Noand#44; but its a heck of a lot nicer than the price tag would suggest. The paint is a few years old and it is holding up well with a shine thats still superior to whatever GM was spraying on cars in 1979. Its also nicely assembledand#44; with urethane bumpers that fit well and show exactly zero cracks or crumblingand#44; big doors that close without needing a violent slamand#44; and proper Trans Am graphics everywhere you look. Never designed to be a subtle machineand#44; the Atlantis Blue paint is the antidote to the more familiar 70s colors and lets you relive the era without having to do it with brown and gold and orange. The chin spoiler doesnt show any evidence of run-ins with steep driveways or parking curbsand#44; making this a car that can hold its head high at car shows and still turn heads on the street. Honestlyand#44; driving one of these today is even more of an event than it was in 1979. The black cloth interior is reportedly mostly originaland#44; including seat coversand#44; door panelsand#44; and dash pad. All the other stuff like the center console and headliner are likewise originaland#44; with only the carpets being replacedand#44; so you can see that this cars always been well-maintained. The gauges are original with bright markings and clear lensesand#44; and the original AM/FM/8-track stereo head unit still worksand#44; and even comes with an irreplaceable 8-track tape just to prove it. Engine-turned dashboards have represented high-performance since the earliest days of motoringand#44; and Pontiac used it to great effect in the Trans Am throughout the first two generations. In a lot of cars it tends to peel and turn yellowand#44; but in this cool blue coupeand#44; it remains brightand#44; shinyand#44; and firmly affixed to the dash. Options include cold A/Cand#44; power windows and locksand#44; cruise controland#44; and the famous Trans Am T-tops that are great for some open-air motoring. The trunk is finished with a gray cloth mat but doesnt have any of the telltale signs that this car has been wrecked or rustyand#44; so feel free to have a look underneath. When you checked the automatic transmission box on the order form for your new Trans Amand#44; you not only got a heavy-duty TH400 3-speed automaticand#44; but also a 403 cubic inch Oldsmobile V8 rated at 185 horsepower. And yesand#44; this is the originaland#44; numbers-matching blockand#44; nicely detailed and topped with a freshly rebuilt Quadrajet carburetor living under the hood scoopand#44; which was more decoration than functionand#44; but who cares when it looks this cool? The 67and#44;394 miles are believed to be actualand#44; and the engine unopened. And as a carefully owned three owner car thats never been a daily driverand#44; it still runs strong and solid. It really drives great! A stock-style exhaust system features a catalytic converter and OEM mufflersand#44; so it sounds mellow and never gets annoyingand#44; and ends with the cool dual tips under each quarter panel. And seriouslyand#44; there arent many factory wheels better-looking than the Pontiac Rallye IIand#44; which have been painted to match the bodywork and wrapped in 225/70/15 BFGoodrich T/A radials. If youve been looking for a solid Trans Am thats ripe for appreciationand#44; this one fits the bill. Call today! |
