There cant be many car guys who havent lusted for a red Corvette at some point in their lives. This great-looking 1980 example is a fantastic way to break into the Corvette hobby for not a lot of moneyand#44; and youll probably discover that its a lot of high-performance fun for your dollar. You simply cant go wrong with bright red on your fantastic plastic. This one was refinished a few years ago and used lightly sinceand#44; so the finish sparkles and the shine is outstanding. The color is exactly rightand#44; tooand#44; not too orange like a lot of red Corvettesand#44; and it still shows well yet can be enjoyed without having to worry about rain or bugs on the finish. By 1980and#44; build quality had improved by leaps and boundsand#44; so youll find tight gapsand#44; neat-fitting bumper capsand#44; and T-tops that seal up well. With an update in 1978and#44; the fastback profile with aggressive front and rear spoilers is as good as the C3 gotand#44; and is instantly recognizable today. The only notable deviations from stock are some subtle pinstripes around the front fender gills and blacked-out taillight lenses with Corvette emblems in their centers that light up when you hit the brakes. If you prefer a stock lookand#44; they just snap out so no worries about keeping it original. The matching leather interior is pure 1980s cooland#44; but the red looks more elegant and upscale thanand#44; sayand#44; the silver space capsule look of the pace cars. With a comfortable look thats invitingand#44; its hard to resist sliding into those deep buckets and looking out over the longand#44; dramatic hood. The drivers seat shows wear thats commensurate with the cars age and mileageand#44; while the rest of the interior is very well preserved with only minimal signs of use. Corvettes were loaded with standard equipment in 1980and#44; including A/Cand#44; power windowsand#44; power locksand#44; tilt wheeland#44; and a complete array of gauges that are highly visible and easy to read. A newer AM/FM/CD stereo head unit has been fitted to the center stackand#44; and the workmanship is excellentand#44; not to mention the sound. The L48 engine coupled to an automatic transmission was a great performer in 1980and#44; and even today the rumble of the exhaust and torque will get your heart racing on the street. It starts quickly and idles easilyand#44; and there are few engines more reliable than a 350 Chevy topped by a 4-barrel carb. Highly originaland#44; the engine bay is clean and well-maintainedand#44; and chrome items like the air cleaner lid and valve covers remain bright. Underneathand#44; its extremely clean with a fresh exhaust system that sounds awesome. The original slotted alloy wheels have been polished and given red insertsand#44; and wear fat 225/70/15 Goodyear Eagle radials.
