Configuration: This 1983 Mercedes Benz 300GD (VINWDB46033317028087) is an unusually optioned European spec truck with a naturally aspirated diesel five-cylinder, 4-speed manual transmission, and factory A/C that was legally-imported through the authorized Mercedes Benz importer, Europa. It is a survivor with virtually all-original equipment. The specification is very desirable from a ruggedness, reliability and utility perspective, including full hydraulic locking differentials front and rear, roll-up windows, manual locks, vinyl seats, headlamp washers, and the coveted troop carrier seats, which work perfectly. It does have a few factory upgrades, including power steering and power brakes, halogen auxiliary lights, and factory brush guard. After market items include a custom-installed Blauplunkt stereo system with Alpine speakers and CD changer and auxiliary amplifier mounted tastefully under the seats in the factory storage bins. As you can see from the photos, it is very tastefully done and it all looks like it came from the factory that way (except it sounds a LOT better). The cassette deck is fitted with a smartphone/iPod adapter. It also has a new factory-style VDO tachometer mounted in the factory location (no drilling was done) so you can tell just what speed the engine is running. All windows except the windshield have been professionally tinted and work properly. Title is clean and in my name. Condition: This truck is in superb survivor condition. It has 167,000 original miles, which is very low for a diesel. It has been exercised very regularly. The vehicle retains all its factory original body paint, and as you can see from the photos, it remains glossy and presents very well. The body is straight and shows no sign of bodywork. No rust was detected anywhere, even in the usual spotsandhellip;under the tail lights, under the rear door, rear wheel wells. (Some light surface oxidation was completely removed from under the rocker panels, and has been treated with hermetically-sealing coating similar to POR15) I store the vehicle in a heated garage year-round. All five wheels are the original steelies that have been bead-blasted, acid-etched and then professionally powdercoated factory silver. All bumpers, hitches, brush guards, rock guards, headlight protectors and grills were given the same professional bead-blasting/acid-etching/powder coating treatment to match factory black. There are no tears or wear-through on the upholstery and the upholstery is all-original. The headliner is in mint condition. A/C was completely refurbished and has been charged with the original 12A Freon and blows very cold. The truck starts immediately and does NOT blow smoke on startup. Presentation: The truck looks like it drove out of 1983 to the present andndash; it is really straight, paint is glossy and clear. Plastic and rubber trim looks excellent, as any worn pieces were replaced with factory parts. Simple factory steelies give it a very utilitarian vibe. It is a beautiful vehicle to those who love this early military look. It drives as a stock 300GD should andndash; it has heavy but not ponderous steering, it has excellent visibility, it has no trouble keeping up with city traffic. It is happiest off-road, where the locking differentials make it virtually unstoppable. It is one of the most-capable off-road 4x4s ever constructed. These non-turbo diesel 5-cylinder powered trucks are dead simple and very robust. Maintenance and Repairs: The engine has had a full fuel injector flush with Lubro Moly Diesel Purge. It has received full fluid flushes on engine oil, brake fluid, clutch fluid, differential oil, power steering fluid with factory spec fluids. All parts used are genuine Mercedes Benz parts through the local dealership. (Engine parts are readily available. Virtually every part is easily available through MB. They have made a commitment to supporting the G Wagens, including this one!) All new filters have |
