Isnt it the best of both worlds to find a genuine Euro car, which has lived all of its life in the mild climate of sunny Southern California? If you agree, youll like this 1985 Mercedes-Benz 380Sl Roadster. Its a German-delivery car, from the last year of production for this model. It was imported as a new car, received a catalytic converter to meet the strict Califoria emission requirements, but retained its German H4 headlights and small chrome bumpers. The star cruiser comes superbly equipped with automatic climate control (Klimaautomatik), cruise control (Tempomat), vaccum-operated central locking system (Zentralverriegelung), tinted glass (Colorverglasung), power windows (elektrische Fensterheber), power mirrors (electrische Aussenspiegel), height-adjustable and heated seats (Sitzhandouml;henverstellung and Sitzheizung) and all the goodies youd expect to find in a luxury car of this vintage anyway. The engine runs like a Singer sewing machine, delivers 218 horses on demand, exactly 63 more than its US sibling which had to do with 155, and only 8 less than the 560SL. SLs undercarriage is that of a California survivor. No rust or accident damage, all factory original finishes, and even lots of the Cosmoline in place! The car comes with the matching factory hardtop and a black softtop as well as the factory correct Bundt alloys. Finish is Mercedes Smoke Silver (Rauchsilbermetallic), code 702G, and its splendidly preserved, with no dings, dents, scratches, or other imperfections to note. Cockpit is super inviting with its burled walnut trim and bone stock, save for an updated radio with integrated CD player. Black seats are free of imperfections, almost look new. Area behind the seats is large enough for two of mens best friends. California license plate starting with 2 dates back to 1985, is the original one. Matching front plate is included as well. Clean trunk. Vulnerable rubber strap holding up the spare wheel well is undamaged. Original spare and German Warndreieck. The car runs and drives superb. Having driven numerous 560SLs, we can honestly say that theres barely a difference in power. Yes, the 560SL has a bit more torque, but this 380SL would give any 560SL a run for the money, up to a speed thats way, way out of reach for us Yanks. Rarely will find a Euro SL that has benefitted from living the good life in sunny Southern California. Truly, the best of both worlds! |
