Named after the NASCAR Winston Cup Grand National Series, the new Regal Grand National debuted in 1982 after Buick won the Manufacturerandrsquo;s Cup that year and the year before and wanted to capitalize on their success. Advertised under the slogan, What wins on Sunday, sells on Monday the new Grand Nationals proved to be extremely popular and in the years since their production, they have reached cult status in the automotive world for their distinctive styling and blistering performance. This 1987 Buick Grand National is a real treasure, with only 72,797 original miles on the odometer and with just two owners over the course of its 29-year history it looks and feels like a brand new car. Garaged its entire life, the current owner purchased the Buick in 1995 from an acquaintance and has taken excellent care of the car while itandrsquo;s been in his possession. Repainted in its original, iconic black a few years ago, the exterior of the Grand National shows excellently and testifies to its garage-kept life, while inside the car the black and gray cloth interior is immaculate. The original seats are plush and comfortable with no tears or stains, while the headliner is free from rips and sags. All the gauges and instrumentation work, including the tachometer and boost gauge, and the original Concert Sound II radio and power antenna work great. Other interior features include power windows, power locks, moonroof, factory GM CAT-IV alarm, and working A/C that has been converted from R-12 to R134a and blows cold. The car also retains all its original Grand National adornments such as its original floor mats, headrests, and Grand National badging on the dash, as well as on the fenders and trunk. Under the hood, the original 3.6L SFI turbocharged V6 makes 245 horsepower and 355 lb-ft of torque and is mated to a Turbo-Hydramatic 200-4R four-speed automatic transmission. The engine runs excellently and is unmodified save for an aftermarket Kenne Bell intake along with aftermarket front valence with intake pickup on the driverandrsquo;s side. Other upgrades include an aftermarket ground wiring kit, a new larger diameter exhaust, and a new fuel pump, which was recently installed. The Buick rides on Goodyear Eagle GT+4 215/65R15 tires mounted on the original Grand National wheels which retain all four of their original hubcaps. Overall this 1987 Buick Grand National is a wonderful car that has been excellently taken care of its entire life and although the term muscle car doesnandrsquo;t usually come to mind when thinking about an automobile built in the 1980andrsquo;s thatandrsquo;s exactly what this Grand National was and still is, an andlsquo;80s icon whose performance is still admired today.
