1987 Citroen 2CV in Orange Tenandegrave;re

This excellent late model 2CV has been in the same family since new. She has had just two drivers, both dedicated 2CV enthusiasts. Always lovingly maintained, but all the same a year ago it was time for a body off frame ground up restoration. The work started with a new, galvanized chassis. The body was stripped, any rust cut out and new metal welded in. The floorboards and lower firewall are new, galvanized metal. A high quality paint job was applied, inside and out. The seats have been reupholstered in the correct fabric, and the convertible top is new also. The engine received new cylinders and pistons. A 123 electronic ignition was fitted. The engine (and transmission) received a major service, fluids and filters were changed, valves adjusted, new sparkplugs and cables, new oil filler / breather assembly, new coil, new clutch assembly (complete kit), all drive shaft boots were replaced. She has new wheel bearings, and suspension arm bearings. New also are the shock absorbers, and so much more. The list is too long! Much of this work was performed by Burton Car Co. of the Netherlands. The gearbox has Ami-8 ratios, 1, 2 and 3 a little shorter, 4 a little taller that a stock 2CV box. That means quick acceleration, but highway cruising at lower rpm. Very comfortable! She has disc brakes on the front, drums on the rear.

Please note in the pictures that the floor mats were removed to show the new floors and galvanized chassis. The floor mats are back in place of course. The pictures were taken in the Netherlands, but the car is in the US now.

This is a lovely car that will give many years, and many miles of reliable service. The engine runs smooth and strong, the transmission works great. There is no evidence of any oil leaks. Brakes and steering are excellent. The car returns great fuel mileage and is a lot of fun to drive. These late model 2CVs have plenty of power to keep up with modern traffic in the city, and will drive along happily all day long at 65 mph on the highway.
