Now that values have safely settled into a known rangeand#44; the C4 Corvettes are a fantasticand#44; fun investment in the old car hobby. This 1989 Corvette convertible is the kind that youll see decades from now as a highly-sought survivorand#44; especially with a great color combination and desirable 6-speed manual transmissionand#44; which was introduced this year. Code 28 Dark Blue Metallic is a sublime color on the C4and#44; perfectly capturing the dual nature of Chevys plastic sports car. On the one handand#44; its a Vetteand#44; and you know it takes no prisonersand#44; but on the otherand#44; its actually elegant and well-appointedand#44; a luxurious machine that definitely represents the top-of-the-line. The dark blue metallic finish will never go out of styleand#44; and thanks to two caring owners over the past two-and-a-half decades it remains in decent condition throughout. The way this car looks today means that it still draws appreciative stares out on the road and more than a few people will just come right out and tell you how gorgeous they think it is. The fit and finish are very goodand#44; indicative of the major quality-control improvements made at the Bowling Green factory during C4 production. Sureand#44; there are some signs of ageand#44; but the Greenwood rear wing gives it an aggressive look that draws the eyes away from the flaws. The tan leather upholstery is the ideal complement to the dark green paintand#44; with supple hides covering the optional articulated sport seats. Theres some minor wear on the high-traffic areas like the drivers side bolstersand#44; but you can easily see that this is a well-maintained car in the sharpness of the details and overall fresh look. Just about everything was standard on the Corvetteand#44; including power windows and locksand#44; powerful A/Cand#44; cruise controland#44; and a comprehensive set of instrumentsand#44; and the intervening years have proven that the hardware is very reliable and robust. The carpets are a little worn simply because the sills are high wear areasand#44; but the rest looks pretty darned good. The convertible top gives the entire car an upscale look when its upand#44; and like all Corvettesand#44; it stows quickly and easily in a matter of seconds under a hard deck that gives it an uninterrupted line from nose to tail. And as a bonusand#44; this car includes a removable hardtopand#44; a rather rare option that cost a whopping $1995. Chevys L98 350 cubic inch V8 was a mainstay of early C4 productionand#44; and history has demonstrated that its one of the most reliable and durable powerplants to ever wear the crossed-flags emblem. A veritable torque factoryand#44; it delivers the kind of neck-snapping performance that makes grown men laugh out loud and even in stock formand#44; this Corvette is more than a match for most anything else on the streetand#44; even today. While there are millions of aftermarket upgrade parts availableand#44; this convertibles V8 is almost entirely stockand#44; adding to its credentials as a smart buy. No abuseand#44; no questionable modsand#44; just a cleanand#44; car thats obviously led a very good life. The ZF 6-speed manual is plenty tough and while this car has the typical C4 Corvette throwout bearing grumbleand#44; it doesnt affect how it runs and drives. Tall rear gears mean that it just loafs along on the highway and actually pulls down decent fuel economy thanks to a towering overdrive 6th. Polished C5 Corvette wheels look great and carry staggered 245/45/17 front and 275/40/18 rear performance radials. This is a really smart buyand#44; especially at this price. But its so prettyand#44; we dont really think youll have to convince yourself to take it home. Call today! |
