If theres one type of car we can always count on to be collectableand#44; its the pace cars. The combination of performanceand#44; historyand#44; pedigreeand#44; and a connection with fans makes them perennial favoritesand#44; and this 1995 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Brickyard 400 Pace Car is a great example. Number 40 of only 400 built and showing just 742 original miles (not a misprint)and#44; this is as close as youre going to get to investment-grade. The Pace Car package added $2195 to the price of the Monte Carlo Z34and#44; and it included all the awesome things that you get with a pace car: decalsand#44; the top performance engineand#44; and just about every option available. Of courseand#44; as a collectors carand#44; this one has led a charmed lifeand#44; spending 99% of its time in a climate-controlled environment. For the past 20 yearsand#44; it has been on display but carefully maintainedand#44; so it runs and drives beautifully but the original paintand#44; decalsand#44; rubberand#44; and glass are all in showroom fresh condition. There might be a few signs of aging that are completely inevitableand#44; but for most folksand#44; this is essentially a brand new car. Heckand#44; the grease pencil marks are still on the glass! The Brickyard 400 decals are bright and well-adheredand#44; with no cracking or peelingand#44; and the design is familiarand#44; having been penned by the same stylists who created the Corvette pace cars just a few years later. The overall look is tasteful but high-impactand#44; exactly what you want from a pace carand#44; and well wager that when you show up with this Monte Carloand#44; youll have the only one. The tan leather interior is likewise all original and pretty much in new condition. Leather seats with special embroidery to signify the pace car connection are joined by embroidered floor matsand#44; making it feel special inside. The rest is standard Monte Carloand#44; which isnt a bad thingand#44; because it brings all the comfort and convenience features youd expect from Chevys top-of-the-line passenger car. The A/C still blows coldand#44; its equipped with power windowsand#44; locksand#44; seatsand#44; and mirrorsand#44; plus cruise controland#44; and even a tilt steering column. The rear defroster was a $164 option and the power drivers seat added $260 to the final tally. It also comes with an AM/FM/cassette stereoand#44; which was probably one of the last years such a thing was available and it still sounds decent to our ears today. Theres also a rather large trunk that has probably never carried anything beyond what the factory put there. The Z/34 option included a 3.4 liter DOHC V6and#44; which was an impressive performer in 1995. GM was finally getting with the program and this engine as much as any other signified the Generals look to the future. It runs beautifully and remains 100% stockand#44; so the idle is smooth and it drives like a new car. If you like survivorsand#44; this is a slam-dunkand#44; because everythingand#44; including belts and hosesand#44; is factory-issue. Fluids have been changed due to timeand#44; not mileageand#44; and it is exercised regularly to keep everything fit and trim. The 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission offers quick shifts and easy highway cruisingand#44; and the Z/34 option upgraded the suspensionand#44; so its sporting without being harsh. Special white 16-inch alloy wheels were part of the Pace Car kit and wear their original 225/60/16 Goodyear Eagle RS-A radials. Fully documented and expertly preservedand#44; this Monte Carlo is an investment waiting to happen. We cant say when or how muchand#44; but the fact that pace cars never last long on the showroom floor strongly suggests that theres a hungry public out there looking for the best of the best.
