Remembered for an epic chase scene and the legendary Steve McQueen, Bullitt is one of the most enduring and revered movies for any automotive enthusiast. In the almost 50 years since its release, the 1968 390 Mustang Fastback has become as much of a star as McQueen himself.
To mark the anniversary of the films release, Ford produced a limited number of Bullitt GT Coupes painted in Deep Highland Green over Charcoal, as the 68 Fastback was originally presented, with a number of SVT Cobra performance features. Total production by Ford was limited to 5,500 examples and the first four were produced specifically for McQueens family.
More than just a gussied-up GT coupe, these limited edition Mustangs pack a true performance punch. The 4.6L V-8 engine has been beefed up a number of SVT Cobra performance upgrades like a high-flow cold air intake, aluminum intake manifold, 57mm bore throttle bodies and a performance low-pressure exhaust for a superb soundtrack. The V-8 is backed by a proper 5-speed manual transmission and puts its power to the ground via a Traction-Lok differential.
5-piston Brembo Brakes -- the same performance brakes as the SVT Cobra -- with red calipers lie behind anthracite Torq Thrust-style 5-spoke aluminum wheels, and a performance suspension with revalved Tokico shocks and a andfrac34; inch lower ride height provide sharp handling and fantastic driving dynamic to go along with the tough guy looks and muscle car soundtrack. Automobile Magazine reported in 2001, this Bullitt feels more eager to go. . . with more low-down urgency and a serious desire to smoke the rear tires from every stoplight.
