Details: If youre a smart car guyand#44; youll spot the high-grade hardware living underneath this home-made creation: a 2003 Panoz AIV roadster chassis. With Mustang Cobra powerand#44; a sophisticated all-independent suspensionand#44; and massive brakesand#44; its got the hardware to be a sparkling performer. The bodywork isand#44; shall we sayand#44; uniqueand#44; but theres no denying the potential that exists under the skin.

We dont know what happened to the Panozs original skinand#44; but it couldnt have been too traumatic because the stuff underneath is still in excellent shape. This is a recent build and obviously the builder wasnt from the English Wheel and planishing hammer school of designand#44; but thats OK. It does have an old-fashionedand#44; industrial-strength look that might grow on you after a while. Its steel and diamond plateand#44; so its going to be virtually indestructible and the red paint makes it look sporty. Its unlikely that any aerodynamicists were consultedand#44; what with the upright windshield and massive wingand#44; but theres enough power coming out of the 32-valve Cobra motor that things like wind resistance arent really an issue anyway. It does have thoughtful touches like a hood ornamentand#44; cool little tubular bumpersand#44; and 39 Ford taillights with Model A auxiliary lamps up highand#44; all of which give it a familiar feel. Is this what hot-rodding would look like if it were invented in the 21st century?

I suppose you could call two bucket seats and a steering wheel an interior but this is really more akin to a 4-wheeled motorcycle. The racing buckets hold you in place like your clothes were made of Velcroand#44; whichand#44; along with the 5-point harnessesand#44; make you feel pretty secure in a car without doors. Durable diamond plate makes up most of the interior surfacesand#44; so you dont have to worry about wear and tear and youll never have to vacuum the interior of this car. The Panoz steering wheel made the transition intactand#44; as did the Cobras white-faced gauges in the center of the dashand#44; and a custom center console was fabbed up to hold the 5-speed manual gearbox. Its pretty light on creature comfortsand#44; but thats obviously the point and its street legal thanks to functioning lights and signalsand#44; plus a manual wiper atop the windshield frame.

The most appealing part of this car is obviously the hardware that makes it goand#44; starting with the 4.6 liter DOHC Ford V8. With more than 300 horsepower on tapand#44; the performance is exciting yet reliability is virtually bulletproof thanks to OEM build quality. Its a tight fit in the narrow engine bayand#44; but everythings in there and they did take the time to make the wiring and plumbing work right. Heckand#44; even the custom dual exhaust system is equipped with catalytic convertersand#44; so this sucker should be emissions legal in most areas. The Ford 5-speed manual is a slick shifting unit and it drives an independent rear end with industrial-strength A-arms holding it up. Four-wheel disc brakes are massively powerful and a full set of Roush wheels give it an awesome stance. Recent 245/45/18 front and 295/35/18 rear BFGoodrich radials have been fitted.

We dont quite know what to make of it either but that doesnt stop it from being a blast to drive. Enjoy as-is or use it for the foundation of another build. The hardware is incredibly competent and it would be pretty hard to make a faster car for less cash. Call today!
