You just know that the biggest name in horsepower wouldnt be able to lay off GMs hottest carand#44; and the result is this 2010 Chevrolet Camaro HPE 650. John Hennessey doesnt mess aroundand#44; eitherand#44; with this bright yellow F-body cranking out an astounding 655 horsepower and 642 pounds of torque. Yeahand#44; its legit and theres just no way youll be able to buy more speed for less cash anywhere else. It isnt subtleand#44; but when you can run 11-second quarter mile times at willand#44; welland#44; theres not much reason to keep a low profile. Actuallyand#44; the HPE mods are pretty low-key relatively speakingand#44; and most folks on the street wont see this as the threat it actually is. There are some black side skirtsand#44; a carbon fiber chin spoilerand#44; and a few Hennessey badgesand#44; but by the time anyone really notices that stuffand#44; its already too late. With just 4418 actual milesand#44; this Camaro is still virtually new and hasnt been abusedand#44; racedand#44; or floggedand#44; so the sheetmetal and paint is factory fresh. The searing yellow paint is better than youd expect for GMand#44; befitting a much more expensive carand#44; and the retro-inspired look is aging welland#44; because this car still gets a lot of looks on the street. Add in some satin black stripesand#44; oversized chrome surrounds for the exhaust pipesand#44; and the hunkered-down stance (HPE is nothing if not great at lowering vehicles)and#44; and you have one heck of an intimidating Camaro. Insideand#44; its pretty much the same as any other Camaro youve seen: deeply sculpted leather bucketsand#44; a fat steering wheeland#44; retro-style gaugesand#44; and tons of creature comforts. Hennessey embroiders the headrests for you and puts a serialization badge on the dash (this is #22and#44; by the way) but otherwise leaves well enough alone. As youd expectand#44; its like newand#44; which is the highest praise we can give any vehicleand#44; and obviously everything works. The seating position is pretty good if youre intending to go fastand#44; although you should familiarize yourself with your surroundingsand#44; because this car gathers speed so quicklyand#44; youll find yourself in another zip code before you can count to 10. Dont say we didnt warn you. And if you just want to cruiseand#44; its happy to do that with ice cold A/Cand#44; a kickin stereo systemand#44; and great road manners thanks to a deep overdrive on the 6-speed manual gearbox. You even get a decent-sized trunk as part of the dealand#44; complete with cargo net. Under the hoodand#44; there are bigand#44; obvious changes. Oneand#44; the intake manifold has been replaced by a supercharger. Twoand#44; there are yellow coil covers. And threeand#44; horsepower is up by about 50%. The central part of that is a TVS2300 supercharger with cold air inductionand#44; which crams pressurized air into the upgraded LS engine. The heads were portedand#44; theres an upgraded camshaft insideand#44; and its been fitted with high-flow fuel injectors to add fuel to all that extra air. Of course its been properly tuned so it starts quicklyand#44; idles nicelyand#44; and doesnt get fussy. Throttle response is instantand#44; and its still emissions legal thanks to stainless headersand#44; high-flow catsand#44; and a stainless exhaust system that dont mess with the exhaust output. Stilland#44; it sounds nasty. The suspension is pretty stock save for the lowering joband#44; and those big 3-piece wheels with blacked-out centers and oversized rubber totally stuff the wheel wells. Glace at the invoice and youll see more than $60and#44;000 worth of Camaro. That was 4000 miles ago. Today you get a $10and#44;000 discount on what is still the nastiest F-body you can own.
