2014 Tesla Model S P85D VIN: 5YJSA1H25EFP63805 Multi-Coat Red with Tan Leather First launched in 2012, the Tesla Model S would become the best selling plug in electric car only three years later. Company co-founder Elon Musk has forever changed both the cars we drive and the automotive industry offering a wide range of features and options making conventional cars appear out of date even while on the showroom floor. While many skeptics have dismissed Tesla as a fad car, with over 150,000 units sold, three models added to the line up, and viral videos displaying phenomenal performance prowess, the Tesla Model S has secured its place in history delivering a highly refined automobile offering luxury and performance features at very high standards. This particular 2014 example (manufactured December 2014) has covered only 20,000 miles and is the highly desirable Model S P85D (Performance model, D-for Dual Motor) rated at 619 hp, the maximum power ranges from 504-691 under computer control with torque of up to 687lb/ft. The extraordinary power and instantaneous torque is engaged via a dual motor driveline with a touch-pad tap to insane mode. Never has a more appropriate mode been assigned to acceleration. 0-60 comes on at 3.2 seconds (Motor Trend achieved 60 at 3.1), but most importantly the first boost of astonishment comes from 0-30 when a measured 1.32 G force comes on like a hurricane at your back. To give this some perspective, acceleration is the same as the iconic $10 million McLaren F1, while pulling jet-fighter level G forces. All this acceleration comes on with eerie quiet from the drive train andndash; nothingandhellip;not even shifting. It all comes on at once. Pure speed dumped into your unexpected lap of luxury. The only noises you might hear will be the sounds of passengers gasping in astonishment. And while all this power comes on instantly, once at speed, you might consider the handling would somehow be compromised - this is far from the case. Unlike traditional cars, most of the weight of the Tesla Model S is down low in the chassis (batteries and low profile engines). Front and rear engine weight is evenly distributed to give the car nearly slot-car like grip on a range of surfaces. Cornering is amazing at any standard, but for a full sized sedan andndash; simply unprecedented. Standard on all P85D models are the dual AC induction motors with three-phase variable frequency drive, and drive inverters with regenerative braking (which uses braking energy to reduce battery consumption). The motors are supplied by microprocessor controlled lithium ion batteries, which deliver 89 mpgE and a driving range of 242 miles (as an average of driving conditions). A twelve-hour charging time is required for standard charging, however, this car is equipped with twin chargers capable of charging at up to 80amps (22kw), achieving a full charge in less than six hours. Supercharging (full capacity, charging at further reduced time) is also available from selected locations. Further features include single speed gearbox, smart air suspension, 10kW on-board charger, and both 120V and 240V as well as J1772 adaptors for a range of charging options. Safety equipment includes eight airbags, ABS, traction and stability control, and second row child latch attachments. The overall condition of this P85D is very nice throughout. The car was used for daily commuting and has been generally well cared for. The factory paint is glossy and shows only minor scuffs on the lower panels and a few general use marks evident upon close examination. Wheels are in very good condition as are all lighting and various exterior trim and emblems. Glass throughout the car is very nice as is the retractable tinted roof panel. All exterior openings function smoothly with excellent gapping in all openings, solid closures, and no evidence of structural damage in any of the body panels. The interior is |
